The video was posted by Gigi’s friend, photographer Alana O’Herlihy and it might be the most relatable thing the model has ever done. From the inexplicably unedited three-second pause at the beginning to the incredibly literal dance moves, the whole thing has that ‘content normal humans can create’ vibe that literal supermodels don’t generally tend to give on social media. Even Gigi’s grin, which seems to say, ‘Did we put too much time and effort into this? Probably. Do I regret it? Not. One. Bit’.

Gigi and Alana aren’t the first viral ‘Cruel Summer’ choreographers. In May 2020, Taylor Nation shared a dance video posted by Swiftie @taygrewe.

@lilmami_lani NOT SO CRUEL SUMMER CONTENT STARTS NOW. 🥺🦋😇🧚🏽♂️☀️👙 #onagirlstrip #brookieandjessiefanpage
The timing of the share isn’t a coincidence. ‘Cruel Summer’ was slated to be released as a single during the summer of 2020, but that plan was scrapped because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Taylor Swift explained all this personally last month when sharing that her label had decided to finally release ‘Cruel Summer’ as a single in response to its massive streaming numbers:
‘I’m not trying to blame the global pandemic that we had, but that is something that happened that stopped “Cruel Summer” from ever being a single. No one understands how this is happening, but you guys have streamed “Cruel Summer” so much right now in 2023 that it’s, like, at the top—it’s, like, rising on the streaming charts so crazy that my label just decided to make it the next single.’
