How a Victorian Warehouse Became a Tiny House

Some people who want to live a minimal life, but don’t want to leave the city, are engaged in various researches. It is really difficult to realize this in cities. As a result of years of urbanization, there is almost no space left to build a tiny house in the city centers.

Some people who are dedicated to minimal living can avoid this difficulty thanks to ingenious designs. Some unusable properties between large buildings can be converted and made suitable for minimal living.

A ramshackle structure wedged between buildings

A very good example of this was designed in Birmingham, England. A writer was looking for a property in the city where he could live a minimal life and do his work. He made an incredible discovery between two old Victorian buildings.

Between the large buildings is a structure that was probably previously used as a garage. This small building, built in a very cramped space, was used as a warehouse and was in a very run-down condition. It didn’t even have a window to illuminate the inside.

The brick walls of this building with a high ceiling looked incredibly solid and aesthetic. The author was so impressed by this tiny structure that he asked Intervention Architecture to turn it into a tiny house for him.

The project especially focused on natural lighting

The architects worked on providing natural lighting to the features in the tiny house. For this, they opened a large door in the back wall. This helps to illuminate the interior and provides a passage to the backyard.

They also made a large window above the door, in keeping with the design of the period. They opened a window to the ceiling.

The high ceiling is very suitable for the mezzanine

The high ceiling was ideal for creating a mezzanine inside. This maximized the usable space. A steel frame was used to create the mezzanine. This steel frame also makes the building even stronger. White plaster was used to insulate the walls. This helps to reflect more of the natural light coming in. The floor is covered with a natural oak floor.

The tiny house looks spectacular when completed

When you enter through the door on the street, you can see the bathroom through the door on the right. The dominant design here is white. There is a large bathtub and sink inside. The glossy tiles show that a lot of thought has gone into the design.

After the bathroom, there is a kitchen with a modern design. The white design stands out in the kitchen. The quartz countertop draws attention. A little further on, there is a seating and relaxation area.

The double-leaf door leading out from here leads to a small garden. The garden is used as an extra space when the weather is hot.

The stairs leading from the kitchen lead to the sleeping and working area. The workspace is quite simple, quite spacious as it overlooks the space inside.

The natural light from the opposite windows ensures that this area is always bright. Just behind is the sleeping area with a double bed.

This tiny house, which is Victorian in its exterior design and very modern in its interior design, seems to be the inspiration for many books for the author who lives in it.
